Born in Tokçam village of Torul district in Gümüşhane in 1963. He completed his primary, secondary and high school education in Trabzon. He graduated from the Department of Agricultural Products and Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, Atatürk University in 1987. He completed his MSc studies in 1990 and obtained his PhD in 1995 on milk technology, visited Ohio State University, USA for research between the years 1992-1994. After that he was appointed Assistant Professor at the Department of Food Engineering at Yüzüncü Yıl University in 1995. He made scientific research at “Food Science and Biotechnology Faculty” at Berlin Technical University in Germany for three months in 1999. He was promoted to Associate Professor in the field of “Milk Technology” in 2000. He was promoted as associate professor to the Department of Food Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Architecture at Abant İzzet Baysal University in 2004 and then professor in the same department in 2006. He played an active role in the process of founding the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture at AIBU and opening, starting the education activities of the Food Engineering Department at the faculty. He has published 60 scientific articles on milk technology (16 within the SCI), and a book titled “Herbed Cheese”. He has participated as a coordinator or researcher in 14 projects supported by various institutions. He has been a member of the editorial board of several national and international journals. He has participated in more than 20 scientific congresses and symposiums at national and international level. He had served as the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture at Abant İzzzet Baysal University from 2004 to 2008. He had served as the Head of the Department of Food Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture from 2006 to 2009. He was a member of Advisory Board of Agriculture, Forestry and Veterinary Research Support Group (TOGAV) at Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) from 2008 to 2010. He was a member of the National Food Codex Commission established within the Ministry of Agriculture in 2009. The SAN-TEZ project titled “Freezing of pasteurized goat milk and changes in milk during frozen storage”, carried out within University-Industry cooperation under his leadership was rewarded by the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology. He was appointed as the Rector of Abant İzzet Baysal University in 2010. He was reappointed to the position in 2014 and has been the Rector since then.
Prof. Dr. Hayri COŞKUN, was appointed as Rector in 2010 and 2014 again. He is still serving as Rector of AIBU. Prof. Dr. COŞKUN is married and has three children.
